The Auction this year was held on Sunday, 15th May 2022.

It was much more than a fundraising initiative - it was an experience! And of course, Internationale St. Moritz Automobilwochen supported the cause by providing two vouchers to enjoy the week as VIPs and driver at the Bernina Gran Turismo in St. Moritz.

The loyal Zip Zap activists came together and, through their collective philanthropic action, created change and a series of opportunities, not only for their current 2000 Zip Zap beneficiaries, but also invested in future generations of circus magic.

This special evening was led by local comedian Nik Rabinowitz, who acted as auctioneer. Supporters and friends gathered to reconnect with the Zip Zap cause and bid on unparalleled creations, collectible treasures, and local and international travel and adventure experiences. World-renowned bartender Tetsuo Hasegawa joined us from New York to create his famous cocktails, accompanied by delicious hors d'oeuvres created by Local at Cape Heritage.

Zip Zap was born 29 years ago from a simple dream, a trapeze bar in a tree, a costume box and a rusty car. Established by South African born Brent van Rensburg and his French wife, Laurence Estève, their dream was to use the circus as a tool to bridge socio-economic gaps and to inspire and empower young people to build a new culture of peaceful co-existence in South Africa, inspired by the late Nelson Mandela.

As the Zip Zap story was founded on an initial love story between the two co-founders, so it continues to unfold as one. The love can be felt in every corner of this extraordinary social circus. It is felt on stage, on the training floor, throughout eleven programmes and between every beneficiary, alumni, staff, international intern, board member and show audiences.
